Yesterday my lower back started itching like crazy. Then I kept waking up because of the rash on my legs and the itchiness on my lower back. When I woke up this morning I looked in the mirror and, with no great surprise, saw the same rash on my lower back that has plagued me on my lower legs for a year now!

I had agreed with the dermatologist to do another round of antibiotics and steriod cream for 2 weeks before trying gluten free. Well, I am starting today because this is crazy. I'll call the doc tomorrow (the 2 weeks would be up Wednesday) and let him know about the new outbreak.

Good for you. Many people get very quick relief from DH with the gluten-free diet. But be aware that it will take one to two years (sometimes less, sometimes more) for the gliadin deposits under your skin to be gone. They are what causes the rash. So, it is possible to get outbreaks of DH up to two years after eliminating gluten.

But I hear that usually those outbreaks aren't nearly as bad as when people were still consuming gluten.

In order to heal quicker, you really need to eliminate dairy and soy as well (for a few weeks at least).
