Is anyone else sick of the writers strike?? I AM!!! I miss having my Grey's Anatomy, and a few other shows. BOOOOO on the writers strike!!!

All that is on T.V. these days is reality show after reality show...........that gets old fast. Am I alone in this??
blueeyedmanda
I miss the Office! this is the first season I was getting into it....saw 4-5 episodes and now all repeats!
Darn210
Unfortunately, this is what the writers had to wait around for . . . no more new shows so finally the public will start getting upset, quit watching, advertisors get mad and pull commercials, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah!!!

Even if they start writing right away, then they've got to get to filming and editting . . . I think it's going to be awhile!!!

No, I am right there with you on this laugh.gif

Most all of my favorite shows have aired, or will be airing, the very last episode they had in the can before the strike started dry.gif

All I have left to look forward to is a few eps of Lost when it starts at the end of Jan.

I heard this might drag on, they were saying there might not be any new TV for the fall 2008 season ohmy.gif

Yep Julie--me too smile.gif It will only be 8 episodes, they originally planned to air 16 straight--I was really looking forward to that--but will take what I can get at this point. tongue.gif

I do miss a couple shows like Grey's and Two and a Half Men, but really, not as much as I thought I would.

I'm getting addicted to "House Hunters" on HGTV ph34r.gif

One of my friends uncle works in the industry and he said that all the writers HAVE the scripts but they won't sell them because the strike, obviously. But, he said they think it's going to go until September!!!! ohmy.gif AHHH!!!! I miss all my shows too!
Mango04
I'm kind of on the side of the writers...they get the really really bad end of the deal in Hollywood (really, really bad), but I do miss some shows.

I found myself watching Dance Wars: Bruno vs. Carrie Anne the other night ph34r.gif

I think Grey's was new last week, but it was sooooo bad! dry.gif

There are some great shows on the Travel Channel though. Anybody else watch Anthony Bourdain?
angel_jd1
Ahhh I envy you folks who have cable. We live out in the country where there is no possible way of even getting cable!!! We have an antenna.

My dad loves 2 & 1/2 men!! It's a pretty funny show.

I too have to confess...I watched part of the biggest looser the other night ph34r.gif ....I was just happy to have something that I hadn't seen before!!! ha laugh.gif

I miss :
Grey's Anatomy
Men in Trees
Desperate Housewives
Brothers and Sisters
Two and a half men
Friday Night Lights

I don't get to watch them all regularly, but I guess regularly enough that I am missing them!!

I feel the worst for the other people, like the folks who work on the set who aren't going to benifit at all from the strike (make-up artists, KRAFT Service workers, janitors etc). Those are the folks who I worry about. Most probably live paycheck to paycheck to begin with, and now they have NO work!!

I'm not allowed to have expanded cable. ph34r.gif Self- imposed rule......I would do NOTHING but watch HGTV, any kind of ridiculous "reality show," the Food Channel, History Channel.....and then how would I have time to waste time chat with my friends here? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
debmidge
This is not a criticism of the shows you like to watch as they are probably on after I go to sleep anyways and I don't watch them & don't know what they are all about..but I have basically stopped watching TV years ago as nothing interested me. So I am not missing much I feel. I don't watch the reality or dancing or Idol shows anyway. Oh, there is one show I do watch so I guess the strike will affect me.... I like to watch Monk on USA cable. Oh well.
blueeyedmanda
Honestly, I don't do too much of the reality TV either, I watch the American Idol, but this will only be the 2nd year, we do watch wife swap and sometimes Super Nanny.

We perfer shows which are on A&E and TLC like Ice Road Truckers and Little People Big World....our new favorite is Parking Wars....boy that is funny. Those are reality shows but I think they are a different type of reality show.

Oh and Brothers and Sisters was just getting GOOD! They just dropped a bunch of stuff in our lap, like that new guy is he really Rebecca's father, what's gong to happen in the election, the affair is out in the open....

CLIFF HANGERS of epic porportions!!!!
angel_jd1

Yes, the writers strike is creating the ULTIMATE cliff hanger!!

I am wondering also what is the deal with Rebecca's father....was it William or is it this new writer/drifter type guy....hummmm. Also, why is she so embarassed of him and not want him near her. Did something ugly happen there or is it just because he is Rebecca's dad??

I also can't believe that now Robert doesn't want to have a baby......is he scared because of the miscarriage or what is his deal??

On to Friday Night Lights............geesh the whole kicking the sister out deal was pretty harsh!!!

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif I know! What's wrong with them? LOL

Did anybody watch Grey's last night? I know it was a re-run, but I fell asleep the first time I tried watching that episode, and I kind of wanted to know if the woodpecker guy was going to live laugh.gif ...so....I made a second attempt at watching it. Um...I fell asleep again! blink.gif

Is there something wrong with me or was that just a really boring episode? unsure.gif laugh.gif Did the guy live? What did the gentlemen's evening turn out to be? LOL. Anybody know? laugh.gif

Sorry Mango--I turned it off after the last new "Ugly Betty" for a while. I know last week, they repeated Thursday's episode of Grey's on Friday night....

Ok--I just checked ahead on TiVo--it's on again tonight at 8 Eastern. I never saw that one, so I think I'll watch it biggrin.gif

I am watching Life after People on the history channel, very interesting. They were just talking about Chernobyl the place in the USSR which had the Nuclear Accident. This part sent chills down my spine. TMI is in our backyard, I can see it on my way to work...and I live in the 10 mile radius. Yikes!

American Idol is the current saving grace. It is also pretty funny right now with all the bad singers.....gotta laugh at those.

Thank Goodness Antiques Roadshow is not in re-runs! ha (does that make me a nerd that I watch that show, I LOVE IT).

Hey guys, I'm an actor in NYC and this strike is effecting everyone. One of the big issues is the web. They are posting tv shows on the web and they aren't really monitored so they don't get their residual. That totally sucks for them! Basically there is NO pilot season so there won't be very many new shows in the Fall. That's going to suck too. As for us actors in NYC it's getting crazy! All the LA talent is relocating to NYC for theater and the auditions are packed and horrendous, that makes less job opportunities for us live theater actors. I do feel that in the long run this will be for the better of the writer. It's going to be a LONG while before this clears up.
Not to mention the stage hand local one IATSE strike we had in late November hurt/helped the industry. Also, FYI Actors Equity, the stage acting unions Production Contract (that's 98% of the Broadway shows contract) ends this summer. I'm on the sub negotiating committee and it's already getting ugly for us too. The writers strike is hitting hard for agents too, they don't get their commission on tv shows (and it's a LOT) and then Broadway strikes....and I wouldn't be surprised if it strikes again...so watch out! Things I think, are going to get uglier!

I think if you haven't watched it, or have no idea about the characters and intertwining storylines, it would be confusing to jump in on it now.

I just love it, it's super cute, has a really good message with what the main character Betty is a representation of, and the characters are all so quirky.

It's also soap opera-ish crazy, and funny, and in parts dramatic. It's just a fun imo.

Ok how I see Ugly Betty

In the scheme of things Betty is the "good guy", unsullied, salt of the earth, honest, loyal, intelligent, good-hearted, ambitious but not to point of cut-throat; she has no guile, can be gullible, has a positive attitude; not shallow but deep

and, she's "swimming" with the sharks in the fashion magazine industry. Those in the "business" are her mirror opposites and she is desperately trying to fit like a square peg in a round hole. Her boss is a newbie at what he is doing, and behind the scenes the other magazine characters are scheming to take over, undermine her and her boss. Most times Betty is just floating amongst all these strong personalities trying to do what's right, trying to keep afloat, trying to stay alive, and basically trying to keep her boss to focus on running the magazine. She oftentimes is the reason he is successful. Her family is quirkly: a nephew who knows he wants to be in fashion industry and can rattle off names of models and designers as if he's been in the fashion industry all his adult life (hey he's a teen!); her father is a wonderful man who wants his family to be happy & healthy; her sister is an air-head who sometimes gets in Betty's way of achieving her goals in life. The sister needs a crash-course in "self-reliance" . The sister has always relied on her physical looks her whole life, while Betty was short-changed in the physical beauty dept. and has always relied on her brain. The sister's have a love-hate dynamic: the beautiful older sister - who has achieved nothing during her existence is jealous of Betty's education and career and she's always trying to compete with Betty for the father's love. The father loves his two daughters equally and you can tell he misses his deceased wife. Betty takes care of things on the homefront in the same qualified manner as she does at work. But there too things spiral out of her control.

Betty is a symbol of the spirit of achievers who do not get recognition in life; who hum through "making things happen" while others get the credit and monetary compensation for it. She's the underdog: the everyman.

angel_jd1
Happy days are here again!!! I saw on the news this morning that the strike may be over!! YEAH!!! It will still be a few more weeks until production begins on the shows, but there is a light at the end of the re-runs..err I mean tunnel!

Ugly Betty is a very cute show.......Betty is quite a likable character. Quirky and fun. Did anybody mention that it's a show that is shown in various versions around the world? All of them, I believe, based on Mexico's Le Fea Mas Bella. It's taken off in popularity all over the place.

Yes! Writers' strike making progress! This pleases me the most as the Oscars can now air, with writers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rolleyes.gif I never miss the Oscars. smile.gif
