Hey! I need help from some of you computer techies...
I absolutely REFUSE to have yet another professional come over, spend ten minutes downloading or removing something on my hard drive, emptying my pockets, then leaving. I wanna fix this one myself, and am so far rather frustrated...

I have Mozilla Firefox as my browser, and everything's always been fine. Suddenly a couple of days ago, I cannot get online. I try, and a window pops up saying, "Firefox could not install this item because of a failure in Chrome Registration. Please contact the author about this problem".
WTH?
When I click on the X of this window many times, it eventually goes away and I suddenly get online. But I cannot get onto websites from other sites--this message comes up, and does not go away.
I've been searching for an answer...looks like something about 'Client Security Solutions'. (?)
Anyone know anything about this? I'm SO incredibly computer illiterate!! dry.gif

I've never had this error, but this page has an easy-to-follow idea on what you can do: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Chrome+registration+failed
Hopefully this will help!

I wish I could help, Emily, but I have no idea what could be wrong.

Hope someone knows--how about Peter? He seems very knowledgable about these things.

Oops! Yep, Tom...can't disable it...

It is astounding, truly, to realize how much valuable time can be wasted wrestling with these !#**!!# technical glitches.... mad.gif mad.gif

Wondering whether just an update to newest revision could fix it.

Menu | Help
should be where some sort of 'Check for Updates' option resides.

Ok .. ..
Are you on Firefox ver 2.0.0.8?
Is your pc a Lenova brand?
Ever hear of ThinkVantage?

I'd try one (or both) of these.

1) Install ver 2.0.0.7

2) Start Firefox in 'Safe Mode'.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

In there you can disable all add-ons.
And it appears you can choose 1 by 1 which to re-install the next time you start Firefox in regular mode.

Good luck silly straddler tongue.gif

Emily, I only just saw this topic now. I don't know how I missed it last night, but I'm glad to hear you have beaten the devilish machine.

Well, it may not be ALL over...
See, I spent so much time trying so many things, I finally fixed it by following Tom's instructions but with a couple of modifications that I cannot remember now. And I've just been told that it has only gone away on MY user--DH and both kids are still plagued with this ridiculous chrome thing. Don't get it...I guess they have different add-ons than I do? But I thought I got rid of all the ones that were apparently causing trouble. Anyways, now I cannot remember what, exactly, I did. Grrrrrrrrrr..
Here's what I don't get, either: why would this suddenly happen? Nothing new's been installed or changed. Bizarre and maddening! mad.gif

I was wondering about this. The 1st way you tried, where one add-on wouldn't disable, should work for whomever (gah who/whom again!!) has the Admin acct.

Otherwise, it's 'Safe Mode' for each acct name and disable stuff that way, or installing ver2.0.0.7.

I use FireFox and have never seen a problem like this. I am presently using 2.0.0.11 so perhaps if you upgrade to that level it will solve the problem. In the browser, click the Help item in the top toolbar, then click on "check for updates."
