I just returned from an 8 day trip to Brasil for a friend's wedding. What a great time. As many of you know, it's very stressful to travel when you have Celiac Disease. As always, I packed many snacks for this trip. Much to my surprise, Brasil has to be one of the most Celiac friendly destinations. All of their products are listed "contem gluten" or "nao contem gluten." Water even says, "nao contem gluten." Another neat aspect of Brasil is their snacks! Many of their home grown snacks are corn based. It was wonderful! While walking through Rio this past Wednesday, I stumbled upon a bakery that bakes fresh gluten free bread every morning! It was very good.
Also, I wanted to mention how great Delta Airlines were in providing a gluten free dinner and breakfast. On our flight home, Delta gave me a grilled chicken breast, veggies, fruit, salad and warmed, fresh gluten-free bread! I couldn't believe it. For breakfast, they gave me a ham and cheese gluten-free sandwich (traditional Brasilian breakfast fare).
My question is this: if Brasil can label ALL of their food, then why can't the US?
