My family and I had been gluten free for almost 2 weeks. None of us had been tested, but I felt that our symptoms might be caused from a gluten intolerance as none of us had been responding to any other treatments. Although my hubby has been very supportive, he still wasn't sure that what we were experiencing was due to gluten. So we decided to eat a meal with alot of gluten (sub sandwiches) and see what happened. My kids didn't get sick, but have been unusually cranky today (I think it's due to the gluten). My husband seemed a bit more gassy, but I still question if gluten affects him at all (but he wants to eat like the rest of the family does...no matter what we decide). And I woke up at 2 in the morning with severe D and stomach cramps. The D has stopped, but I can't get the cramping to. I took some pepto, but it hasn't helped. I feel awful. I think it's clear that the gluten affects me....but how do I get to stop??? I didn't expect my reaction to be this bad.

Everyone is different as far as symptoms and how long. For me the stomach pain will subside in a few days, then the brain fog, fatigue, and irritability last a painfully long 2 weeks.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Gina.

I got really bad last night, but I'm feeling a bit better today. It was important to us to do the test and be sure that changing our whole lifestyle was necessary, but I wish I hadn't gotten so sick from it. I didn't realize just how much my body was actually affected by gluten. I figured I hadn't been on the diet that long, and I might get some stomach upset and such, but nothing so dramatic. I guess part of me still didn't believe that we had an intolerance either.
At least now we know.
