I have been gluten-free since November after I was advised I to do the elimination diet and told I had celiac without any actual tests. So okay I do this. Gas, bloating, and constant need to use the restroom disappear. So I'm happier I suppose.

Lately I am starving constantly all the time, never feeling full. I have terrible shoulder and neck pain, I can't sleep, a cough that wont seem to go away, when i do sleep i'm never refreshed, i feel like my head is never clear, I can tell the yeast in my system is out of control. I have a terrible infection and don't know what to do to treat it because Monistat and all that crap seems to contain gluten. PLUS I think if I DO treat it, and i have Candida--then it could make things worse in the long run. I took the long test at Candidafree and my score was almost 200 over the CERTAINLY yeast related number for women..

I've called the Dr. but I don't really trust her and she doesn't always call back. I am going out of town on Thursday and really don't want to be miserable the whole time.

I don't know anything about it in terms of diet or supplements and i don't know where else to ask.

PLEASE offer any advice you have,
Thanks!

Hi Tamed,

I have been where you are! Not sure that any gluten in Monistat will hurt you since it is not entering the gut area. ??

You could try a probiotic douche. I have done that along with probiotic supplementation. Normally I would probably do antifungals during the day and supplement with probiotics at night before bed. Try to get a good quality probiotic like Natren. You want to look for human strains.

Have you checked out the Candida Thread in this section of the forum?

Dear tamedandfoxed,
I know exactly how you feel! I took the Candida questionnaire, and had a score of 350! ohmy.gif
I knew it would be bad, but I did not expect it to be that bad. However, I had constant courses of antibiotics from birth until I was 17 for frequent Bronchitis. I also had a couple of bouts of pneumonia.

Then, as I got into teen years, I stayed on inhaled steroids for asthma for several years. I finally stopped taking them at 17. That same year, it was discovered I had ovarian cysts causing my anemia and heavy, painful periods. In order to fix that, they put me on birth control. Eventually, it was found the pill did no good, and I was put on the Depo-Provera shot. Having five cysts in less than ten months is bad, and I am afraid now the shot is not working and I may have cysts again.

I have a list of big no-nos for the diet. I need to type them up for someone else. So many things out there are bad for us. There are days it hurts for me to sit down. I have made some headway killing off the yeast by tweaking my diet. I also take two probiotics, Accu-Flora (found at Wal-Greens for $4.99 a package), and FloraStor (a type of yeast that pushes Candida out). The FloraStor is not killed off when you do antibiotics, and it helps shove the Candida out and make room for the Acidophillus, L. Salivarius, and other good flora in the Accu-Flora.

oh man.. sounds like you've been through hell and back! I'm so sorry.

Thank you for your advice, I have a walgreens just down the street I will look for the accuflora tomorrow. Where can I find FloraStor?

The Acidophilus I use is called PB8 and was the only gluten-free one i could find at the health food store. it seems to work pretty well. I've been out of it for about a week now and it just hit me the other day that OH that's probably why i'm feeling like poop.

I've started GSE again too but i like it in OJ and i don't know if the citrus sits too well--i think it's what makes my face flush but who knows really!

My doctor wont even call me back.
cranky! biggrin.gif

Thanks for your help!

Any food lists, etc you could fwd to me would be awesome.

Dear tamedandfoxed,
I have been through Hell. Doctors have not impressed me. Most claim anyone who they cannot figure out what is wrong with them is mental. Candida, Lyme, and Celiac are very misdiagnosed, and commonly overlooked. I began seeking answers myself after getting tired of waiting on doctors.

FloraStor can also be found at Wal-Greens. It is more expensive there than at Super Wal-Mart's pharmacy. We paid $15 less at Wal-Mart. CVS also carries FloraStor. Just be sure to ask the pharmacist, because it is available only by asking. The cost may be $45 per bottle. Wal-Mart only had us pay $29.99.

PB8 is good stuff! A friend of mine on here was using it. She may still be. Her name is AndreaB. I do not know how many microorganisms it has, but Accu-Flora has 500 million per tablet. I used to be able to get it at Sam's, and they had 1 Billion per capsule. So, I have to take two of them now that Sam's does not carry them, and I have to get the smaller packs.

Going without your probiotics is a good possible cause of feeling so bad. I know I cannot skip a single day. My system is in really bad shape. Strangely, the FloraStor has lactose in it, which makes me sick. Despite this, I handle the supplement. This is a bit perplexing.

GSE is a good anti-fungal. I will type out that list of foods to avoid and supplements you can try. You need to be careful about treating Candida by yourself. This is best to do under your physician's care. I see a holistic physician. Regular MDs do not know anything about yeast or a lot of other things!

The OJ is probably loaded with natural molds. Fruit juices generally are. That is why they are not allowed on the Candida Diet. It also feeds the yeast, due to the sugar content. However, I am hypoglycemic. This is why I cannot give up fruit and starches completely.

I will definitely type out that list of foods that are to be eliminated. If you like, PM me with your e-mail. I can give you a copy of an essay I wrote about yeast in college. Its pathology was so fascinating, I could not resist. Meanwhile, shame on your doctor!

The dr i'm pissed at is actually a Naturapath or whatev. Word on the street is she diagnoses everyone with gluten stuff cuz she thinks gluten is the root of all evil. I see a different doctor (who is actually an MD who works with gluten and everything) at the same place next week. they all work together. Which would be awesome except I don't really trust them now.

It's just really bad timing. I'm trying to visit college (grad in May) tomorrow for the first time and i'm going to want to have wine with my friends!

I will try to message you... haven't done that before so we'll see.

Thanks so much for your help.

Dear tamedandfoxed,
I cannot blame you for not trusting them! Who in their right mind would? It is difficult to be trusting of such physicians. When they all work together, they all talk. I currently see a holistic physician, who deals with chelation and yeast on top of other more well-known conditions.

Gluten is very hard on the neurological system. One vet said he has had 100 percent of dogs with seizure disorders recover completely once gluten is removed from their diet. I would like to experiment with our Yorkie, since he is suffering with this. Although gluten is not particularly good for anyone, that does not mean it is everyone's trouble. I agree with what you said. Everyone's system is different.

All of these things always run together! I hate that! It is so frustrating. Just when you think things are improving, everything goes awry. I hope you are able to enjoy your visit to college. Alcohol is terrible for your Candida. Without the diet, other things like anti-fungals are not effective. Integrative therapy is essential to eradication.

I got your message! Way to go! I will respond soon. I have some other correspondances to catch up on as well. I am more than happy to help in any way I can.

Feel free to ask questions if you have any. Also, we discuss this frequently on the OMG Thread. You are more than welcome to pop in! The more the merrier! If I cannot answer questions, I am sure someone else on the OMG I Think I Might Be Onto Something Thread could. Just skip to the last page or so, since it has so many pages.

Sincerely,
Jin
